     Big things are happening in Morris County! This spring, local students are making history and showing what 91��Ƭ ’s possible with hard work and determination.

     For the first time ever, three students from Morris County have been accepted into the 91��Ƭ Honors Program as Presidential Scholars 91��Ƭ —the highest number from the area in a single year. And that 91��Ƭ ’s not all. Pewitt High School is celebrating its first graduate to earn an Associate of Science in General Studies, while a Pewitt junior is already finishing a technical certificate from 91��Ƭ. Daingerfield also has a senior earning a certificate in industrial technology.

      91��Ƭ “These students are going above and beyond, 91��Ƭ ” said Landri Brown, Dual Credit Liaison at Northeast Texas Community College. 91��Ƭ “They 91��Ƭ ’ve worked hard, stayed focused, and are showing just how bright the future is for Morris County. 91��Ƭ ”

Student Spotlights

Litzy Flores 91��Ƭ – Daingerfield High School

A top-performing student with a 4.0 GPA, Litzy has juggled academics, athletics, music, and work, all while maintaining a positive and supportive attitude. Now a Presidential Scholar, she has also received the Sid Greer Scholarship from Texas Heritage National Bank.

91��Ƭ “She 91��Ƭ ’s motivated, humble, and a joy to work with, 91��Ƭ ” said advisor Kristy Sutton.

Adam Richards 91��Ƭ – Daingerfield High School

From re-enrolling with no credits to becoming a top student and Presidential Scholar, Adam 91��Ƭ ’s story is one of redemption and resilience. Once homeless, he now ranks 13th in his class and dreams of becoming an architect.

91��Ƭ “He 91��Ƭ ’s overcome more than most could imagine and done it with determination and grace, 91��Ƭ ” said Sutton.

Ian Mares 91��Ƭ – Pewitt High School

Ranked 6th in his class, Ian is known for his academic excellence and community leadership. A multi-sport athlete and DAR Good Citizen Award recipient, Ian plans to study psychology.

91��Ƭ “Ian leads by example with a humble spirit, 91��Ƭ ” said counselor Lauren Day.

Calan Cobb 91��Ƭ – Pewitt High School

The first Pewitt student to earn an associate of science degree before high school graduation, Calan plans to study Computer Engineering at UT Tyler.

91��Ƭ “He came in with a plan freshman year and never let up, 91��Ƭ ” said Day.

Montana Gaskin 91��Ƭ – Pewitt High School

As a junior, Montana is already graduating with an Industrial Tech certificate from 91��Ƭ, a testament to his strong work ethic and perfect attendance.

91��Ƭ “He 91��Ƭ ’s accomplished more as a junior than many do after graduation, 91��Ƭ ” said Brown.

Mosely 91��Ƭ “Nash 91��Ƭ ” Johnson 91��Ƭ – Daingerfield High School

Ranked 9th in his class, Nash balances academics, work, and family responsibilities while preparing to study cybersecurity. A state chess champion and ITTC certificate earner, he 91��Ƭ ’s known for his quiet determination.

91��Ƭ “He turns every obstacle into opportunity, 91��Ƭ ” said registrar Jeanie Williams.

     As these students prepare for college, careers, and continued success, their stories serve as powerful reminders of what determination, community support, and educational opportunity can achieve.

91��Ƭ “People say this generation doesn 91��Ƭ ’t understand hard work, but I 91��Ƭ ’d tell anyone to sit down with one of these students and they 91��Ƭ ’d change their mind, 91��Ƭ ” said Brown.
