Morris County high school students stand out at the college level

     Big things are happening in Morris County! This spring, local students are making history and showing what 91看片 鈥檚 possible with hard work and determination.

     For the first time ever, three students from Morris County have been accepted into the 91看片 Honors Program as Presidential Scholars 91看片 鈥攖he highest number from the area in a single year. And that 91看片 鈥檚 not all. Pewitt High School is celebrating its first graduate to earn an Associate of Science in General Studies, while a Pewitt junior is already finishing a technical certificate from 91看片. Daingerfield also has a senior earning a certificate in industrial technology.

      91看片 鈥淭hese students are going above and beyond, 91看片 鈥 said Landri Brown, Dual Credit Liaison at Northeast Texas Community College. 91看片 鈥淭hey 91看片 鈥檝e worked hard, stayed focused, and are showing just how bright the future is for Morris County. 91看片 鈥

Litzy Flores
Litzy Flores 91看片 鈥 Daingerfield High School

A top-performing student with a 4.0 GPA, Litzy has juggled academics, athletics, music, and work, all while maintaining a positive and supportive attitude. Now a Presidential Scholar, she has also received the Sid Greer Scholarship from Texas Heritage National Bank.

91看片 鈥淪he 91看片 鈥檚 motivated, humble, and a joy to work with, 91看片 鈥 said advisor Kristy Sutton.

Adam Richards 91看片 鈥 Daingerfield High School

From re-enrolling with no credits to becoming a top student and Presidential Scholar, Adam 91看片 鈥檚 story is one of redemption and resilience. Once homeless, he now ranks 13th in his class and dreams of becoming an architect.

91看片 鈥淗e 91看片 鈥檚 overcome more than most could imagine and done it with determination and grace, 91看片 鈥 said Sutton.

Ian Mares 91看片 鈥 Pewitt High School

Ranked 6th in his class, Ian is known for his academic excellence and community leadership. A multi-sport athlete and DAR Good Citizen Award recipient, Ian plans to study psychology.

91看片 鈥淚an leads by example with a humble spirit, 91看片 鈥 said counselor Lauren Day.

Calan Cobb 91看片 鈥 Pewitt High School

The first Pewitt student to earn an associate of science degree before high school graduation, Calan plans to study Computer Engineering at UT Tyler.

91看片 鈥淗e came in with a plan freshman year and never let up, 91看片 鈥 said Day.

Montana Gaskin 91看片 鈥 Pewitt High School

As a junior, Montana is already graduating with an Industrial Tech certificate from 91看片, a testament to his strong work ethic and perfect attendance.

91看片 鈥淗e 91看片 鈥檚 accomplished more as a junior than many do after graduation, 91看片 鈥 said Brown.

Mosely 91看片 鈥淣ash 91看片 鈥 Johnson 91看片 鈥 Daingerfield High School

Ranked 9th in his class, Nash balances academics, work, and family responsibilities while preparing to study cybersecurity. A state chess champion and ITTC certificate earner, he 91看片 鈥檚 known for his quiet determination.

91看片 鈥淗e turns every obstacle into opportunity, 91看片 鈥 said registrar Jeanie Williams.

     As these students prepare for college, careers, and continued success, their stories serve as powerful reminders of what determination, community support, and educational opportunity can achieve.

91看片 鈥淧eople say this generation doesn 91看片 鈥檛 understand hard work, but I 91看片 鈥檇 tell anyone to sit down with one of these students and they 91看片 鈥檇 change their mind, 91看片 鈥 said Brown.
