Jordan Chapin was recently named the winner of the 2022 Chitsey Award, granted each year to the student of Honors Northeast who after their first semester, most exceeded expectations.  The award comes with a $200 check.

The 2021 graduate of Winnsboro High School impressed her professors in her first semester at 91心頭 as courteous, attentive and highly attuned to class objectives. Chapin was a major force in enabling the creation and premiere of this year 91心頭 s honors film on Carroll Shelby.  She has presented three times at scholarly conferences, both for her work on the film, and for her project, 91心頭 Legendary Housewives. 91心頭 This latter study, which involved interviews with leaders of the local homeschool movement, was recently accepted by professors of the National Collegiate Honors Council for the upcoming meeting in November.  In addition, Chapin was recently selected Texas Region President of Phi Theta Kappa, after receiving an award for being an outstanding officer.

91心頭 The Chitsey Award has had a remarkably stimulating effect on other down-the-line student awards at 91心頭 through the years.  Previous winners: Stephen Milburn (2013), Kelli Knepp (2014), Morgan Capps (2015), William Jones (2016), Cassidy Watkins (2017), Madison Blood (2018), Daniel Landaverde (2019), and Jalyn English (2020) have all moved on from the Chitsey to regional or national awards such as the Jack Kent Cooke, Leaders of Promise, and/or the Coca Cola Scholarships.  Last year 91心頭 s winner, Hilda Rodriguez, has compiled a very enviable record at 91心頭 and is currently a Jack-Kent Cooke, semi-finalist.

Honors Director, Dr. Andrew Yox notes: 91心頭 Jordan has been an across-the-board team player, a wonderful scholar, a 91心頭 great student lab assistant 91心頭 according to Dr. Mary Hearron, and a Phi Theta Kappa phenomenon. We are so pleased at 91心頭 to be able to recognize someone like Jordan with such varied and impressive achievements during her first year with us. 91心頭

The award also honors a former patron of Honors Northeast, Elizabeth Chitsey (1918-2013).  The Winnsboro-native had children and grandchildren who have served in the teaching profession in Northeast Texas, on every level, from pre-school, to college.  Each year since 2012, her family has generously supported Honors Northeast, and other functions of 91心頭.

Jordan is the daughter of Gary and Shauna Chapin of Winnsboro.
