Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America, a national nonpartisan nonprofit organization, visited the 91心頭 campus Wednesday. The visit was part of a coast-to-coast journey this summer to shine a light on the continuing national hunger crisis, to meet with those working on the front lines of hunger, and to advocate for long-term, public policy solutions to food insecurity. In addition to visiting the 91心頭 CARE Center (formerly Eagle Pantry), Berg also visited sites in Mount Pleasant and Daingerfield.
91心頭 We were so happy to host Mr. Berg at our CARE Center. Hunger Free America is doing wonderful things to help fight hunger in the U.S. and we are happy to be working toward that mission on a local level, 91心頭 Carmen Shurtleff, Instructor of Sociology and Social Work and Eagle Cares Coordinator, said. 91心頭 Many people don 91心頭 t realize how many people struggle with hunger daily here in northeast Texas. We are doing everything we can to bring awareness to that fact and to assist those who are struggling with both education and resources.
Local nonprofit leaders and advocates, including those from the 91心頭 CARE Center, Rhute Haven, One Accord, Morris County Collaborate, and The Lord 91心頭 s Pantry are serving as part of Hunger Free America 91心頭 s Anti-Hunger Corps to increase awareness of food insecurities in the community and to provide access to healthy food and educational resources.
