Research papers being accepted for Bonnie Spencer Awards

For students willing to excel in their research papers in history at 91¿´Æ¬ again this year, there might be more at the end than an ?A?. For the third year, history at 91¿´Æ¬ will feature the Bonnie Spencer Awards for the best two research papers in non-honors classes. 91¿´Æ¬ † The first-place winner will receive $100, and the second place, $50. 91¿´Æ¬ † There will be an optional Honorable Mention Prize.

Essays should be at least 1,000 words with correct historical citations. 91¿´Æ¬ † Professors may nominate their top student essays, or students may nominate their own papers. 91¿´Æ¬ † The essays should have been written for a fall-of-2017 or a spring-of-2018 history class at 91¿´Æ¬. 91¿´Æ¬ † Essays should be sent to 91¿´Æ¬ †ayox@ntcc.edu 91¿´Æ¬ †by 1 May at noon. 91¿´Æ¬ †For questions about the rubric, or format, email Dr. Yox at the address given. 91¿´Æ¬ † History Professors here, along with Bonnie Spencer, will determine the winners.

Past winners have gone on to other opportunities and awards. 91¿´Æ¬ † 2016 winner, Kassandra Martinez ended up presenting her winning paper on Cyclone Davis at many venues. 91¿´Æ¬ † Tanika Santos went from the Bonnie Spencer to a Walter Cooper Award of Phi Theta Kappa.

The awards are in honor of Bonnie Spencer who in 2002 started the college?s first history club. 91¿´Æ¬ † She now raises and sells Appaloosa horses in Camp County.
