This Summer, August 13-17, the scholars of Honors Northeast will film their annual cinematic production on a figure of regional interest. 91¿´Æ¬ † This year?s subject, Northeast Texas heroine, Barbara Smith Conrad, suffered through a bruising discrimination case at the University of Texas at Austin in 1957. 91¿´Æ¬ † The university president at that time, Dr. Logan Wilson, had Conrad, an African American, removed from the lead role of a UT opera because she was playing opposite a white male. 91¿´Æ¬ † Conrad went on to become an internationally acclaimed opera singer.

91¿´Æ¬?s honors program is interested in acquiring actors for this film who might like to play the roles of Conrad?s father, mother, sister, and college roommate. 91¿´Æ¬ † Though there is no salary involved, thanks to generous donors, the program can help set up anyone interested with some financial support to concentrate on their role during a five-day period of filming, 13-17 August, and to prepare their parts beforehand. 91¿´Æ¬ † Anyone interested in appearing on film for this project, or helping with this local legend is welcome to contact, asap, Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director at the College: Room H115, 903-434-8229, or 91¿´Æ¬ †ayox@ntcc.edu. 91¿´Æ¬ †The nine previous regional films of Honors Northeast are available to the public at the site:
