Honors Northeast highlights high school standouts

Nayeli Fuentes, 91¿´Æ¬ †Junior Class President of Mount Pleasant High School, 91¿´Æ¬ † and 91¿´Æ¬ †Elizabeth Griffin, a presence recently in the local theatre scene, were recognized in a luncheon at Northeast Texas Community College March 4 as regional high school standouts.

"It was inspiriting to have two students together who have done so much to raise the bar on excellence in Northeast Texas," 91¿´Æ¬ †Dr. Andrew Yox, 91¿´Æ¬ Honors Director, said.

Fuentes 91¿´Æ¬ †has been the top student of her class of 400 at Mount Pleasant High School for some time. 91¿´Æ¬ † She is a Sargent in the Tiger Dolls, a member of UIL math, a member of the student council, and as many juniors can attest, a lodestone for achievement in the class.

Griffin, 91¿´Æ¬ †while a homeschooled junior, won the President?s Academic Excellence Award and the Horizon Award at 91¿´Æ¬. 91¿´Æ¬ † As a senior she has appeared in 91¿´Æ¬ †Once Upon a Wolf, 91¿´Æ¬ †and recently, in a major role as Annelle in 91¿´Æ¬ †Steel Magnolias--productions of Theatre Northeast.

Presidential Scholar and President of the Honors Student Council, Tyler Reynolds of Pittsburg, congratulated both recipients, as did Professor Shirley Clay of 91¿´Æ¬. 91¿´Æ¬ † Both received gifts.

Nayeli is the daughter of Jose and Angelica Fuentes of Mount Pleasant. 91¿´Æ¬ † Elizabeth is the daughter of Dr. Steven and Joy Griffin of Pittsburg.
