µþ±ð´Ú´Ç°ù±ð 91¿´Æ¬ †Chicago 91¿´Æ¬ †there was 91¿´Æ¬ †³§·É±ð±ð³Ù 91¿´Æ¬ â€Ì̳󲹰ù¾±³Ù²â! Combining the inspiration of Bob Fosse and the hilarity of 91¿´Æ¬ †Neil Simon, Boebe Productions will present the beloved musical Sweet Charity at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College on Saturday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m.
91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †The show, sponsored by Texas Heritage National Bank, features music 91¿´Æ¬ †by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy 91¿´Æ¬ †Fields 91¿´Æ¬ †and 91¿´Æ¬ †book by Neil Simon. 91¿´Æ¬ †Sweet Charity 91¿´Æ¬ †was Directed and choreographed 91¿´Æ¬ †for Broadway by Bob Fosse, 91¿´Æ¬ †starring his wife and famous redheaded muse Gwen Verdon 91¿´Æ¬ †alongside John 91¿´Æ¬ †McMartin. The musical 91¿´Æ¬ †is based on Federico Fellini's 91¿´Æ¬ †screenplay for 91¿´Æ¬ †Nights of Cabiria. However, where Fellini's black-and-white 91¿´Æ¬ †Italian film concerns the romantic ups-and-downs of an ever-hopeful prostitute, 91¿´Æ¬ †in the musical the central character is a dancer-for-hire at a Times Square 91¿´Æ¬ †dance hall.
91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †The musical premiered on Broadway 91¿´Æ¬ †in 1966, where it was 91¿´Æ¬ †nominated for 12 Tony Awards, and also ran in the West 91¿´Æ¬ †End 91¿´Æ¬ †as well 91¿´Æ¬ †as having revivals and international productions.
91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †"Sweet Charity 91¿´Æ¬ †is a classic musical with memorable songs that will have you humming tunes for days. This is a great chance to see a Broadway-style performance right here in Northeast Texas," Carolyn Franks, Director of the Whatley Center, said.
91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †In the production, lead character Charity 91¿´Æ¬ †Valentine is the eternal optimist. While working at the seedy Fan-Dango ballroom, 91¿´Æ¬ †where the motto is ?Hey Big Spender?, she often thinks that ?There 91¿´Æ¬ †Must Be Something Better Than This?. Finally, she seems to have met a 91¿´Æ¬ †decent fellow in Oscar and experiences wonderful things (?If My Friends 91¿´Æ¬ †Could See Me Now!?) Trying to hide her true profession, she lies to him 91¿´Æ¬ †and tells him that she works in a bank. Soon, Oscar asks Charity to marry him.
91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †91¿´Æ¬ †Unfortunately, Oscar discovers Charity?s real profession and backs out of the 91¿´Æ¬ †marriage. Nevertheless, Charity continues to remain hopeful that good things 91¿´Æ¬ †will happen in her life. With show-stopping production numbers, this show is 91¿´Æ¬ †sure to be a crowd pleaser.
