Matt Wood, Ph.D., 91¿´Æ¬ †Professor and Department Head, 91¿´Æ¬ †Department of Physics and Astronomy at 91¿´Æ¬ †Texas A&M University-Commerce recently spoke to a joint meeting of the Math/Science Student Organization and Phi Theta Kappa. The topic was 91¿´Æ¬ †?Kepler Observations of Cataclysmic Variable Stars," which was a 91¿´Æ¬ †spectacular presentation on the variability of brightness of stars known as Cataclysmic Variable Stars as documented by telescopes at the McDonald Observatory in west Texas. These binary star systems have a normal or ?companion? star that loses material onto the paired white dwarf. There are probably more than a million CVs in the galaxy. This was a great opportunity for 91¿´Æ¬ students to learn from a visiting scholar.
