Northeast Texas Community College will host a reception for Latrel McCallum on Tuesday, May 8 from 12-1 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts foyer. The event will 91¿´Æ¬ †honor 91¿´Æ¬ †McCallum's 14 loyal years of service as a member of the 91¿´Æ¬ Board of Trustees. 91¿´Æ¬ †She retired from the board in April.
"Ms. McCallum was a great asset to the 91¿´Æ¬ Board and her presence will be greatly missed. We 91¿´Æ¬ †want to 91¿´Æ¬ †give the public a chance to thank her for her service and leadership as a board member," 91¿´Æ¬ President, Dr. Brad Johnson, said.
Remarks will be given at 12:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served. The reception is free and open to the public.
McCallum joined the Board of Trustees in 1998 and was reelected to that post twice. 91¿´Æ¬ †She led the board as chair during the selection of a new president in 2008. 91¿´Æ¬ †During her tenure, the college grew from 2,045 to 3,350 students and the institutional budget grew from $7,811,134 to $16,582,109. 91¿´Æ¬ †In 2002 the College received approval from the voters for a $18 million bond, which added six Allied Health programs, expanded the Criminal Justice program, and established the University Center through which Texas A&M University-Texarkana provides two baccalaureate degree programs.
"Although it is difficult to step away from my role on the College Board, I have decided this is the right time. The board is unified and I have total confidence in their leadership of the college. 91¿´Æ¬ †I will always love 91¿´Æ¬ and am grateful that my community trusted me enough to let me serve in this way,? McCallum said.
