Eagles battle Navarro for conference title Wednesday

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles baseball team is hoping for 91¿´Æ¬ †a large home crowd Wednesday 91¿´Æ¬ †afternoon as they battle Navarro College for the Region XIV 91¿´Æ¬ †Eastern Zone regular-season title.


The two teams enter Wednesday?s matchup in a virtual tie 91¿´Æ¬ †atop the standings with an Eagle sweep earning 91¿´Æ¬ the 91¿´Æ¬ †title outright. While the games mark the end of the regular 91¿´Æ¬ †season for the Eagles, the Bulldogs finish their season with 91¿´Æ¬ †a pair of games at Paris Junior College Saturday.


The Eagles (31-14. 24-10) come into the contest with a 91¿´Æ¬ †four-game conference winning streak while the Bulldogs 91¿´Æ¬ †(32-15, 23-9) have won three of their last four conference 91¿´Æ¬ †matchups. 91¿´Æ¬ †The double-header gets underway at 1 p.m. Wednesday.


91¿´Æ¬ picked up a pair of conference wins Saturday as they 91¿´Æ¬ †took on Lon Morris College in Jacksonville. 91¿´Æ¬ †The Eagles used a dramatic final-inning comeback to grab a 91¿´Æ¬ †win in game one Saturday as they scored seven runs in the 91¿´Æ¬ †seventh inning to earn a 9-6 victory over the Bearcats. 91¿´Æ¬ †Down 6-2 with one out in the seventh inning, Dauris Holguin 91¿´Æ¬ †got the Eagle rally started with a solo home run over the 91¿´Æ¬ †fence in right field. Durst and an error on a ground ball by Payton Allen allowed 91¿´Æ¬ †the Eagles to load the bases before a single by Costa 91¿´Æ¬ †brought in Segovia to cut the Eagle deficit to 6-4. 91¿´Æ¬ †Billy Gonzales was hit by a pitch in the next Eagle at-bat, 91¿´Æ¬ †forcing in Durst to cut the Bearcat lead to one and a single 91¿´Æ¬ †to right by Wesley Hoover scored Allen and Costa to give the 91¿´Æ¬ †Eagles a 7-5 lead. The 91¿´Æ¬ lead continued to grow as 91¿´Æ¬ †Gonzales stole home on a close play and Luis Sanchez

followed with a double to left that scored Hoover to put the 91¿´Æ¬ †Eagles up 9-6.


Closer Eric Rodriguez came in to pitch the bottom of the 91¿´Æ¬ †seventh for the Eagles and gave up a one-out walk before 91¿´Æ¬ †getting the final batter to hit into a double play to earn 91¿´Æ¬ †the save. 91¿´Æ¬ †Holguin led the Eagle hitters in the win, going 3-5 while 91¿´Æ¬ †Hoover finished 2-3 with three RBI and a walk. 91¿´Æ¬ †Cody Ressler picked up the win for 91¿´Æ¬, giving up two runs 91¿´Æ¬ †on two hits while striking out one and walking one in one 91¿´Æ¬ †and two-thirds inning of work. Justin Schnedler started the 91¿´Æ¬ †game for the Eagles and gave up four runs on eight hits 91¿´Æ¬ †while striking out seven and walking three in four and a 91¿´Æ¬ †third innings of action.


The Eagles used a three-run fourth inning and two-run eighth 91¿´Æ¬ †to pull away for a win in game two Saturday as 91¿´Æ¬ earned 91¿´Æ¬ †an 8-6 victory over the Bearcats. 91¿´Æ¬ †Wesley Hoover, Allen and Richard Bain all scored in the 91¿´Æ¬ †fourth inning as the Eagles grabbed a 5-4 lead but Lon 91¿´Æ¬ †Morris scored one to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of 91¿´Æ¬ †the fifth.


An RBI single by Chris Burdette in the sixth inning brought 91¿´Æ¬ †in Allen to give the Eagles a 6-5 lead before RBI singles by 91¿´Æ¬ †Holguin and Durst put the Eagles up 8-5 in the eighth. 91¿´Æ¬ †The Eagles held off a Bearcat rally in the ninth to earn the 91¿´Æ¬ †victory.


Allen finished 3-4 with an RBI in the victory while Hoover, 91¿´Æ¬ †Burdette and Sanchez each also added three hits each in the 91¿´Æ¬ †win. 91¿´Æ¬ †Daniel Tockhorn picked up the win for the Eagles, giving up 91¿´Æ¬ †one run on four hits while striking out seven and walking 91¿´Æ¬ †one in four and two-thirds innings of action.
